Company formation in the UAE is rarely held up by the authority itself. It is held up by documents — a passport with too little validity left, a board resolution that does not name the right signatory, an attestation that was never obtained. Preparing the file properly at the start is the single most effective way to shorten the process.
Exact requirements are set by the relevant authority and vary by jurisdiction and activity. The lists below reflect what is commonly requested.
For individual shareholders
A clear colour copy of the passport, generally with a reasonable period of validity remaining. A recent passport-sized photograph against a plain background. Where applicable, a copy of the UAE visa page and Emirates ID.
A completed application form with personal and business details, and a shortlist of proposed trade names. Providing two or three alternatives avoids a second round if the first is unavailable or does not meet naming rules.
Depending on the activity and jurisdiction, you may also be asked for proof of address, a curriculum vitae, or evidence of professional qualifications.
For corporate shareholders
The parent company's certificate of incorporation or trade licence, and its Memorandum and Articles of Association. A board resolution approving the establishment of the new entity and appointing the authorised signatory or manager.
A certificate of incumbency or equivalent confirming current directors and shareholders, and an Ultimate Beneficial Owner declaration. Passport, visa and Emirates ID copies of the appointed manager.
Corporate documents issued outside the UAE usually require notarisation, legalisation or attestation, and an Arabic legal translation. This step takes time in the country of origin, so start it early.
Documents for the banking stage
Once the licence is issued, a corporate bank account application generally requires the licence, incorporation documents, shareholder identification, and supporting business information such as a business plan, expected transaction profile and details of counterparties.
Banks apply their own KYC and compliance requirements, and account opening remains at the bank's discretion.
Practical tips
Scan everything in colour at high resolution — rejected uploads are a common cause of delay. Check passport validity before you start. Confirm whether your activity needs external approvals, since those approvals often have document requirements of their own.
If you are unsure which list applies to your case, send us the activity and shareholder structure and we will confirm the exact requirements for the jurisdiction you are considering.
